We are excited to be working with Bones Boat Company in developing their new line of welded aluminum boats, starting with the versatile 22 footer. Our specialty is in welded aluminum designs- specifically those for commercial and governmental applications, though we have also designed a wide range of recreational boats. The vision of Bones Boat Company is of a very rugged boat with clean lines and maximum function, which is a great fit for our design philosophy and experience. Compared with traditional, production built, aluminum boats of similar size you will find thicker materials, more thorough welding, better joints, and better alloys. At 22' x 8'4" and with 2,000 lbs of aluminum in the hull and decks, this is a serious boat that will outlast and out perform. The basic hull and deck configurations, in combination with the computer modeled and cut parts, provide versatility and efficient customization for many recreational and commercial applications.Hull Design: For this hull we elected to go with a 16 degree transom dead rise, deepening to 25 degrees at station 4 and approximately 50 degrees at the cutwater. The chine is nominally 3" wide and turned down a few degrees to keep the boat dry and maximize lift and flow separation. Deeper and shallower V's may be offered in the future, but this is a preferred hull for us as it offers a desirable compromise of efficiency, comfort, seaworthiness, shallow draft, and stability at rest. The boat will run and trim nicely with outboards totaling 150 to 300 hp. Note that each boat is balanced for weights and trim prior to the start of construction. The cockpit deck is watertight and self-bailing through large scuppers at the transom. This makes for easy hose downs and peace of mind when the boat is docked, moored, or running in heavy seas. Sides are framed with a combination of transverse frames and shelf/bench stringers. Decks are supported by transverse frames, girders, and extruded stiffeners. Transverse framing includes two watertight bulkheads. We expect this to be a popular boat with a bright and long future. Bill Lincoln Designer Response Marine, Inc. |
